Year 4 & Year 5 11+ Writing | Tuesday 27th May 2025, 9am - 12pm

This fun, interactive writing workshop focuses on teaching children how to identify and include different word types and add more detail to their writing in line with the expectations of the 11+ exam. We also aim to expose children to a wider vocabulary that they can then start to include in their own writing. Each child is extended from their own unique starting point to ensure progress within the session. This is led by our 11+ teacher Natasha and suitable for both year 4 and year 5 students working towards their 11+.

Year 5 11+ CSSE Maths Paper Walkthrough | Tuesday 27th May 2025, 12:30pm-3:30pm

A great opportunity to go through an entire CSSE Maths past paper with our expert 11+ specialist – focusing on exam strategy and importantly going through each and every question in the paper to find learning gaps and to learn how to answer each question thoroughly to ensure the most marks are gained. This will be excellent preparation for those sitting the 11+ exam in September!

Year 5 11+ FSCE Paper Walkthrough | Wednesday 28th May 2025, 09:30am - 12:30pm

The FSCE exam requires speed and attention to detail. The children will go through the paper, section by section, with guidance from our 11+ specialist teacher. We will then discuss each question and work on the quickest methods for finding the answers. Timing and exam strategy are key to acing this exam so it is a must-do for any girl hoping to go to Chelmsford County High School for Girls Grammar School.

KS2 Speak Up Workshop | Wednesday 28th May 2025, 9am - 12pm

Through loads of fun exercises and games, this workshop will teach you important formal speaking skills such as how to speak up and speak out confidently, clearly and politely; how to present a topic or idea to a group of people; how to answer a variety of questions about yourself and a given topic and how to make great eye contact and use appropriate body language. Led by LAMDA and musical theatre teacher Katy, this is a must for all key stage 2 students wanting to develop this important skill.

Year 8-10 Public Speaking | Wednesday 28th May 2025, 12:30pm - 3:30pm

Develop the skill of speaking confidently and effectively in formal settings with specialist LAMDA and musical theatre teacher Katy. Katy will show students ways in which to portray confidence and poise when speaking publicly, clearly get a point across and influence an audience through speech. This is not only an important life skill for interviews and the workplace but it will prepare students for the Spoken Language Component part of the GSCE English Language assessment. Open to students in years 8-10.

KS2 Crime Scene Challenge | Thursday 29th May 2025, 9:30am - 12:30pm

We are excited to be welcoming Crime Scene Challenge into the centre to invite students to follow the clues and solve a crime! This immersive morning workshop is led by real life detectives and will give students a hands-on experience with real investigation processes including reading and analysing statements, phone records and bank statements, as well as collecting and powdering for fingerprints, analysing shoe marks, DNA and more. The workshop will encourage scientific thinking, enhance vocabulary and develop reading and comprehension skills as students read factual accounts and piece together information. Furthermore, the workshop fosters teamwork, requiring collaborative efforts to build a compelling case against potential suspects. Let’s hope the culprit is found! Suitable for years 3-6.

KS2 Whodunnit theme afternoon | Thursday 29th May 2025, 1pm - 3pm

Based around the original story of the Three Little Pigs, teacher Natasha will lead students on a investigation into this perplexing case. Students will use and develop their English, Maths and inference skills to solve clues and ultimately work together to get to the bottom of the puzzle and ensure a happy ending for all! This is suitable for reception to year 2.

Beginners' Chess | Friday 30th May 2025, 9am - 12pm

Robin Slade, the Essex Junior Chess and Brentwood School Chess coach will be leading a beginners’ chess workshop which is aimed at complete beginners or those who just know the basics. This workshop will not only teach a new skill but promises to be lots of fun too! If you have never tried chess before, why not give it a go?

Year 5 11+ Algebra 2 | Friday 30th May 2025, 9:30am - 12:30pm

Secondary Maths and 11+ teacher Tom will be leading the second of three algebra workshops for year 5 11+ students. If you want your child to master the topic of algebra in preparation for their exam in September this workshop is for you! Tom will introduce and develop knowledge of algebraic problems and practise answering some questions in the style likely to come up in the 11+ exam. This will be a continuation of algebra 1 (which was held in May half term) but it is not essential that you attended this one.

Confident Chess | Friday 30th May 2025, 1pm - 4pm

Robin Slade, Brentwood School Chess coach, will be leading a workshop aimed at those already confident players who wish to learn some new skills and strategies to take their chess playing to the next level. This promises to be both educational and fun and will involve lots of chess playing too!

Congratulations to Ezara & Eva who attend our Chess holiday workshops!  They are part of the U11 Essex Girls Chess Team who won the 2025 National Championships!!
