This February half term we have a range of exciting workshops suitable for several different age groups, for both Kip and non-Kip members!

 

From chess to coding to 11+ Writing to AQA GCSE Poetry Collection we have something for everyone. This February our Creative English and Maths theme workshops are centred around Harry Potter so be prepared to learn through some wizardry! Book now while there is still space!

Beginners Chess | Monday 17th February, 8:30am - 11:30am

Robin Slade, the Essex Junior Chess and Brentwood School Chess coach, is back this half term! Robin will be leading a beginners chess workshop which is aimed at complete beginners or those who just know the basics. Robin is kind, patient and extremely knowledgeable about all things chess and this workshop will not only teach a new skill but promises to be lots of fun too! If you have never tried chess before, why not give it a go?

Confident Chess | Monday 17th February, 12:30pm-3:30pm

Robin will stay on in the afternoon to take on a workshop for those already confident players of chess. If your child has been to a couple of the beginners’ workshops or already knows more than just the basics then this is the one for them! Suitable for all ages.

Year 5 11+ Writing Workshop | Monday 17th February, 9am - 12pm & 12:30pm - 3:30pm

Writing is a key component for both the CSSE and the FSCE exam and it is one which students can find hard to master. Lauren will go through the expectations of the writing component of the exams and teach students ways to make their writing stand out. Essential for all year 5 11+ students.

Year 3-6 Coding Workshop | Tuesday 18th February, 9.30am - 12:30pm

Develop your coding and programming skills, learn to design and debug algorithms and create your very own computer games in Scratch! This workshop is aimed at KS2 (years 3-6) with or without any knowledge of coding and will have a Harry Potter theme.

KS2 Creative English & Maths Harry Potter Theme Afternoon | Wednesday 19th February, 12:30pm - 3:30pm

Get ready for an afternoon of enchanting English and magical maths all on the theme of Harry Potter! Teacher Lauren will lead students on a fun, interactive adventure developing English and Maths skills with a sprinkle of arts, crafts and ICT. Prepare for some wizarding wonderfulness!

AQA GCSE Poetry Collection | Thursday 20th February, 1pm - 4pm

This workshop will revise the AQA poetry collection. It will explore the assessment objectives so that students know the skills they are expected to demonstrate and explain how to write a great answer through modelling exemplar answers. Students will leave with not only a better understanding of the poems but also of how to impress the examiner with great responses!

KS1 Creative English & Maths Harry Potter theme morning | Friday 21st February, 12:30pm - 3:30pm

This Harry Potter morning is going to be loads of fun! Packed full of English, Maths and arts and crafts activities all on the theme of Harry Potter, students will improve their skills whilst having a great time. Led by teacher Amie and suitable for EYFS and key stage 1.

Speak Up | Friday 21st February, 12:30pm - 3:30pm

Through loads of fun exercises and games, this workshop will teach you important formal speaking skills such as how to speak up and speak out confidently, clearly and politely; how to present a topic or idea to a group of people; how to answer a variety of questions about yourself and a given topic and how to make great eye contact and use approproriate body language. Led by LAMDA and musical theatre teacher Katy, this is a must for all key stage 2 students wanting to develop this important skill.
