This October, we have a whole host of workshops available, for both Kip members and non Kip members! 

  • Kip students: You are able to book any workshops you wish, regardless of the subject you attend Kip for.
  • Please note that in order to receive a refund upon cancellation of a workshop, you must notify Kip McGrath Brentwood no less than 7 days before your workshop is scheduled to take place.

Beginner's Chess Monday 28th October 2024 8.45am-11.45am

Robin Slade, the Essex Junior Chess and Brentwood School Chess coach, is back this half term! Robin will be leading a beginners chess workshop which is aimed at complete beginners or those who just know the basics. Robin is kind, patient and extremely knowledgeable about all things chess and this workshop will not only teach a new skill but promises to be lots of fun too! If you have never tried chess before, why not give it a go?

Confident Chess Monday 28th October 2024 12.45pm-3.45pm

Robin will be leading a workshop aimed at those already confident players who wish to learn some new skills and strategies to take their chess playing to the next level. This promises to be both educational and fun and will involve lots of chess playing too!

Year 5 11+ Writing Monday 28th October 2024 12.45pm-15.45pm

This fun, interactive writing workshop focuses on teaching children how to identify and include different word types and add more detail to their writing in line with the expectations of the 11+ exam. We also aim to expose children to a wider vocabulary that they can then start to include in their own writing. Each child is extended from their own unique starting point to ensure progress within the session. This is led by our knowledgeable 11+ tutor Lauren and is aimed at year 5 11+.

Speak Up (Year 6 Private Entrance) Tuesday 29th October 2024 12.30pm-3.30pm

This workshop will teach you important interview skills such as how to speak up and speak out confidently, clearly and politely; how to present a topic or idea to a group of people; how to answer a variety of questions about yourself and a given topic and how to make great eye contact and use appropriate body language. These skills are essential for students applying for Private Schools such as New Hall, Felsted and Brentwood but also great skills for life! Led by our Lamda teacher Katy who has made a number of theatre and tv appearances including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mamma Mia and is suitable for year 6.

Marvel Theme Day (KS2) Wednesday 30th October 2024 10am-3pm

Get ready for an exciting day of learning and fun with our Marvel-themed workshop for Key Stage 2 children! The workshop will be led by one of our experienced and enthusiastic teachers who understands the importance of engaging children in learning whilst making it an enjoyable experience. Children will improve their English and Maths skills in fun ways, all within the context of a Marvel theme. Led by Lauren and suitable for years 3-6.

Year 5 11+ Maths Thursday 31st October 2024 9.30am-12.30pm

It is vital to have a sound knowledge of Maths skills when doing the 11+ and this workshop will teach and build on the essential skills. it is led by our expert 11+ tutor and will look at a range of topics including bar charts, line graphs, pie, ratio, angles, time, volume and probability. The children will then apply the strategies by testing their reasoning and problem-solving with a fun activity! Fun, engaging and great motivation to learn and build confidence in those 11+ required skills! Led by our 11+ tutor Evelyn and suitable for years 5 11+.

AQA English Language Paper 1 and 2 Thursday 31st October 2024 1pm-4pm

This workshop will walk students through the two English Language papers; looking at the skills the students are expected to demonstrate, the timings for each question and how to succeed in each paper. It is led by our Secondary English tutor Nuzma who has marked for AQA exam board for several years and knows exactly what the examiner is looking for when they mark students’ papers. It is suitable for years 10-11.

Marvel Theme Morning (EYFS/KS1) Friday 1st November 2024 9.30am-12.30pm

This fun three hour long workshop will use the theme of Marvel to develop Early Years and Key Stage 1 English and Maths skills whilst also spending time on fun and creative Marvel themed arts and crafts activities. Led by KS1 teacher Amie and suitable for Key Stage 1 (years Reception-year 2).

Coding (KS2) Friday 1st November 2024 9.30am-12.30pm

Develop your coding and programming skills, learn to design and debug algorithms and create your very own computer games in Scratch! This workshop is aimed at KS2 (years 3-6) with or without any knowledge of coding and will have a Marvel theme.
