This February Half Term we will be running our popular workshops again. All our workshops will be held in the Kip McGrath Centre, between Monday 15th February – Friday 19th February 2021 *subject to change due to lockdown
Phonics Fun! Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 – 15th Feb 9:30 – 12:30
All the key national curriculum phonics studied by singing songs and doing engaging, fun activities with our super enthusiastic, expert teacher. Perfect for a keen reception student wanting to get ahead, a year 1 about to sit the phonics screening or a year 2 that needs to revisit and reinforce all of those key phonics skills!
Mighty Maths Reception & Year 1 – 19th Feb 12:30 – 15:30
Making maths meaningful is so important – in this workshop we will make maths fun and make sense! With our fun and energetic expert teacher they will complete maths activities, games and puzzles covering all key national curriculum concepts such as number bonds, place value, addition, subtraction and early multiplication. Most importantly this workshop aims to boost the children’s confidence in maths!
Mighty Maths – Year 2 – 16th Feb 13:00 – 16:00
This workshop will help children learn how to answer SATs style maths questions for both the arithmetic and reasoning papers. This will be taught in a fun, interactive way; importantly building their mathematical confidence!
Let’s Get Writing – Year 2 – 17th Feb 9:30 – 12:30
Discover the fun in writing with our enthusiastic teacher as she gives strategies of how to get ideas flowing and then importantly to get those ideas down on paper! They will gain confidence through fun writing activities that will inspire them to pick up a pencil and get writing!
Writing workshop – Year 3 & 4 – 18th Feb 9:30 – 12:30
This fun, interactive writing workshop focuses on teaching children how to identify and include different word types and add more detail to their writing in line with the national curriculum for lower key stage 2. We also aim to expose children to a wider vocabulary that they can then start to include in their own writing. Each child is extended from their own unique starting point to ensure progress within the session.

Come and join us on this wonderful workshop on Maths to learn valuable Maths tips. Using games, puzzles and problems, we will tackle key curriculum areas, including; the four operations (+, -, x, division) and problem solving with money! It’s time to get confident with maths!

11+ Writing Workshop – 18th Feb 9:30 – 12:30
Here at Kip we have developed a writing technique that helps to make writing more manageable. We find that lots of our children find it difficult to know where to start with their writing as they want to include all the literary elements they have learned. Our writing technique makes writing more ‘formulaic’ so that the students can follow simple steps to ensure that their writing ‘ticks the boxes’ needed to get the highest marks that they can in their 11+ and SATS exams.
11+ CSSE English Prep – 16th Feb 9:30 – 12:30
During our CSSE English prep workshop, the student will be able to look at how to manage their time and how to answer questions with different mark values for the comprehension part of the exam which is worth 40 of the 60 marks! They will work on literal, inferential and evaluative style questions with one of our expert English teachers. We will give them strategies to answer questions quickly and efficiently to gain the most marks possible in their 11+ exams.
11+ CSSE Maths Prep – 19th Feb 9:30 – 12:30
During our CSSE Maths prep workshop, the student will be able to look at how to manage their time and how to answer questions with different mark values. One of our expert 11+ teachers will help them learn to identify the question types, how to break down the question and how best to tackle it quickly and efficiently to gain the most marks possible in their 11+ exams.
GCSE AQA & Edexcel English Language Exam Preparation – 19th Feb 13:00 – 16:00
Led by our expert English teacher, who is also an experienced AQA examiner. This is a step by step workshop which will give you valuable exam strategies and answer ideas for both Paper 1 and Paper 2. This walk through workshop will look at all aspects on how to answer key questions, whilst learning how to nail the GCSE English Language Exam!
GCSE Grade 4 & 5 Secondary Maths – 16th Feb 13:00 – 16:00
Are you working towards grade 4 or 5 in your GCSE Maths? In this workshop we will look at algebra (solving equations, rearranging equations, factorising and simultaneous equations,) geometry (basic angles, triangles, quadrilaterals and circles) number work (LCM and HCF) to help students achieve a grade 4 or 5 in GCSE Maths. The workshop will assume that the basics are in place and is suitable for students working at grade 3 or grade 4 who would like a higher pass or a confidence boost.
Year 10 – 13 Exam Confidence Workshop – 15th Feb 14:00 – 15:30
The pressure on our students to achieve has never been greater and exams can be a stressful time for anyone.
The prospect of having future plans scuppered by an exam result can raise anxiety in the calmest of people.
This 1.5 hour workshop is designed to help children going into their exams by providing some tips and coping strategies in:
- Developing a positive mindset.
- How to handle exam anxiety and stress
- Motivating yourself to achieve your target grades, whether that is a pass or a grade 9!
Using a mixture of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques (CBT), integrated with basic mindfulness and a willingness to learn this workshop delivers the techniques to help your young people achieve their full potential in their exams.
