Beginners Chess | Monday 19th February, 9am - 12pm

Robin Slade, the Essex Junior Chess and Brentwood School Chess coach, is back this half term! Robin will be leading a beginners chess workshop which is aimed at complete beginners or those who just know the basics. Robin is kind, patient and extremely knowledgeable about all things chess and this workshop will not only teach a new skill but promises to be lots of fun too! If you have never tried chess before, why not give it a go?

Confident Chess | Monday 19th February, 1pm-4pm

Robin will be leading a workshop aimed at those already confident players who wish to learn some new skills and strategies to take their chess playing to the next level. This promises to be both educational and fun and will involve lots of chess playing too!

Year 3-6 Coding Workshop | Tuesday 20th February, 9.30am - 12:30pm

Fun coding workshop whatever your level – complete beginner to budding programmer. Develop your coding and programming skills, learn to design and debug algorithms and create your very own computer games in Scratch!  Led by teacher Lucy and suitable for KS2 (years 3-6).

Year 5 11+ Writing Workshop | Tuesday 20th February, 12:30pm - 3:30pm

This fun, interactive writing workshop focuses on teaching children how to identify and include different word types and add more detail to their writing in line with the expectations of the 11+ exam. We also aim to expose children to a wider vocabulary that they can then start to include in their own writing. This is led by our knowledgeable 11+ teacher Lauren and is aimed at year 5 11+.

KS1 Creative Writing & Maths Lego Theme Morning | Wednesday 21st February, 9:30am - 12:30pm

Get ready to learn through Lego play! This fun three hour long workshop will use the theme of Lego to develop Early Years and Key Stage 1 English and Maths skills whilst also spending time on fun and creative Lego themed arts and crafts activities. Led by KS1 teacher Amie and suitable for Key Stage 1 (years Reception-year 2).

KS2 Creative Writing & Maths Lego Theme Day | Wednesday 21st February, 10am - 3pm

Discover the joy of learning through play at our Lego-themed workshop!  Engage in literacy with story challenges, embark on Maths adventures with bricks and explore creativity through art and design Lego projects.  A dynamic blend of fun and education awaits your child in this interactive workshop. Led by Lauren and suitable for key stage 2 (years 3-6).

GCSE English Language Writing | Thursday 22nd February, 12:30pm - 3:30pm

Did you know that the assessment of writing is worth 50% of the entire English Language GCSE? The writing questions are so important on both English Language Papers and yet it is an area where students lose marks and make common errors which can drag down their overall grade. Experienced secondary English teacher and exam marker Nuzma will teach you how to succeed in writing; she will go through the writing questions on both papers and explain what to include to make your writing stand out. There will also be a chance to practise the skills learnt in your own writing responses! Don’t miss this great opportunity! Suitable for years 9-11.

Year 5 11+ Maths | Friday 23rd February, 9:30am - 12:30pm

It is vital to have a sound knowledge of Maths skills when doing the 11+ and this workshop will teach and build on the essential skills. it is led by our expert 11+ teacher and will look at a range of topics including bar charts, line graphs, pie, ratio, angles, time, volume and probability. The children will then apply the strategies by testing their reasoning and problem-solving with a fun activity!  Suitable for year 5 11+.

My children attended the Writing Workshop for years 4 and 5 in October and they absolutely loved it. The first thing my daughter said to me was that it was really fun and the time flew by. Both children have asked to go again next time you run them.
