It is vital to have a sound knowledge of Maths skills when doing the 11+ and this workshop will teach and build on the essential skills. Looking at a range of topics including bar charts, line graphs, pie, ratio, angles, time, volume and probability. Our expert 11+ tutor will teach these. The children will then apply the strategies by testing their reasoning and problem-solving with a fun activity! Fun, engaging and great motivation to learn and build confidence in those 11+ required skills!

Year 5 11+ CSSE English walkthrough workshop, Monday 8th August, 1pm - 4pm - Lucy C

An amazing opportunity to go through an entire CSSE English past paper with our expert 11+ specialist – focusing on exam strategy and importantly going through each and every question in the paper to find learning gaps and to learn how to answer each question thoroughly to ensure the most marks are gained. This will be excellent preparation for those about to sit an 11+ exam!

Year 5 11+ Writing Workshop, Monday 15th August, 9:30 - 12:30 - Lauren

Here at Kip, we have developed a writing technique that helps to make writing more manageable. We find lots of our children find it difficult to know where to start with their writing as they want to include all the literary elements they have learned. Our writing technique makes writing more ‘formulaic’ so that the students can follow simple steps to ensure that their writing ‘ticks the boxes’ needed to get the highest marks that they can in their 11+exam.

Year 5 11+ Verbal reasoning workshop, Friday 19th August, 9:30 - 12:30 - Evelyn

Improve your VR question-answering skills through the practice of activities including: Anagrams, Letter sequences, Synonyms, Antonyms, Spot the odd-one-out, Hidden words, Logic problems, Codewords, Related words, Compound words and more…

Year 5 11+ Algebra and problem solving Workshop, Friday 19th August, 1:30 - 4:30 - Andrea

We have recognised that an in depth understanding of Algebra is needed to pass the 11+ maths exam for both CSSE and CEM – it is a complex topic which connects to many other mathematical themes, such as: finding a missing number using inverse techniques, recognising patterns, nth term sequences, BIDMAS and knowing how to break down a complex word problem and use a formula to work it out. This workshop will focus on these crucial topics and is recommended for anyone taking the 11+ this September!

Year 5 11+ CEM walkthrough, Tuesday 23rd August, 9:30 - 12:30 - Lucy C

The CEM exam requires speed and attention to detail. It has different timed sections of comprehension, verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. The children also must manage how to use an answer booklet and fill it incorrectly to avoid losing marks. We have made our own CEM paper that the children will sit in this workshop. They will go through the paper, section by section, with guidance from our 11+ specialist teacher. We will then discuss each question and work on the quickest methods for finding the answers. Timing and exam strategy are key to acing this exam so it is a must-do for any girl hoping to go to Chelmsford County High School for Girls Grammar School.

Year 5 11+ Non Verbal Reasoning Workshop - Thursday 25th August, 1:00pm - 4:00pm - Evelyn

Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR) is problem-solving using pictures and diagrams. It tests a pupil’s ability to analyse visual information and solve problems based on visual reasoning. Pupils are expected to have a solid knowledge of shape and measure, especially in topics such as rotation and symmetry (credit: Bofa) Join us for our NVR workshop to practise the skills required with our 11+ expert teacher in a fun and engaging way.

At Kip McGrath, students are encouraged and developed in a structured yet relaxed environment. They utilise written, visual and audio/IT packages allowing the children to experience different learning styles and develop confidence in all areas. Kip supports the Primary Curriculum by teaching foundational skills that once secured, are then developed. Each child is treated as an individual and has a programme of development that is assessed and changed as needed. A superb concept.

My children attended the Writing Workshop for years 4 and 5 in October and they absolutely loved it. The first thing my daughter said to me was that it was really fun and the time flew by. Both children have asked to go again next time you run them.
