Have you considered the 11+?
If your child is going into Year 4 or 5, you may have heard that some children in their class have begun training for the 11+ exam and you were wondering if your child should too?
We will be running coffee events here at Kip McGrath run by one of our 11+ experts, that will give you lots of insight about what to expect if you and your child decide that they will sit the exam. It will outline the expectations of the children, the content of the exams and any useful dates. There will also be the opportunity to ask any questions that you might have and talk to some parents and students that have gone through the process.
Please feel free to pop in for a coffee and a piece of cake.
Please call one of our lovely ladies on reception if this is something you would be interested in attending:

11+ and Private school entrance exams
We can help your child succeed with:
Non Verbal Reasoning
And much, much more…
If you are considering a Grammar school your child will need to sit the CSSE and or CEM ( Chelmsford girls only) entrance exam in the September when he/she starts year 6.
The exams might be two years away, a year away or a matter of months, but one thing’s for sure, you’ll be desperate for them to do as well as they can.
And for good reason. After all, the 11+ will have a big say in deciding which school your child will go to – it’s going to have a massive impact on the kind of education they get going forward. Understandably, you want to ensure that the education they receive is first class. No parent would want anything less. So the 11+ is logically pretty close to the top of your agenda.
Over the last 13 years, the team at Kip McGrath Brentwood have successfully prepared hundreds of students for their 11+ and Private school entrance exams. We’ve got a proven track record in coaching pupils to 11+ success, and we’re really proud to say that we’ve helped many children to succeed in being offered a place. It’s fair to say we know what we’re talking about.
Here’s how it works
We’d like to help your child get a plce in a Grammar school. But first, you need to know whether they’re on track for success already. If that’s the case, then everyone’s happy! To work out whether children need our help, we offer a completely FREE assessment for your child.
We believe that the initial assessment is a crucial part of the process as it helps everyone to know where they stand. We’ll provide you with very honest feedback about your child’s natural ability and how it compares to the incredible high standards and expectations set by the selective exams.
We believe in “ethical” tuition and do NOT support excessive pressure on a child to pass the exam. We give your child enough skills, practice and guidance to pass on their own merit, ensuring that they will cope confidently in Secondary School.
In the assessment, we evaluate where they’re at with their Maths, English, Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning and afterwards we’ll be able to tell you whether they’re on track for the 11+ marks you both want.
After the assessment
If your child is on track, that’s great. If they’re not, then we can help. Following on from the assessment, if you feel that your child would benefit from some tuition then we’d love to work with you, but there won’t be any pressure – we just want what’s best for your child.
How the tuition works
The assessment will give us the chance to understand what (if anything) your child requires help with, and this allows us to tailor the tuition accordingly to make certain that they’re getting in-depth help and support in the specific areas they need assistance with.
Both the Chelmsford County High School for Girls (CEM) and the Essex Consortium (CSSE) Grammar schools changed the format of their exam recently. We make it our business to adjust our focus and resources according to the most current requirements, to make sure your child receive the best preparation on offer.
Depending on the time scale, we’ll work out what needs covering and when; and everything we plan is designed to give your child the best chance of acing those exams.
During the Summer holiday one of our expert 11+ teachers will be hosting a 3 hour introduction to 11+ workshop for children starting year 4 and 5 in September and want a taster of what is expected. More information on these can be found under our summer booster tab. Or click on the image below.
